Sölden is renowned for its well-looked after ski slopes, its mammoth skiing area and for its nightlife. At the top
part of the glacier you are guaranteed great skiing conditions for the winter. The skiing here is heavily
concentrated around the resorts 3 highest peaks (which are over 3000m high). Incidentally you can take part in the
‘Big 3 Rally’ where you ski round these peaks. The route is about 50 kilometres long and at the Gaislachkogl peak
there is a huge glass viewing platform which has been purposely built so you can admire the fantastic panorama.
The average skier here is relatively young therefore it is not uncommon to hear the streets filled with
young people rambling about laughing or loud music resonating from grounds of the various holiday homes. While
families may not be the happiest with the party atmosphere here, the ski resort is best suited to young skiers who
would rather stay on-piste.
Unfortunately advanced skiers and free riders are better off suited in other
ski resorts such as Ischgl or at
Arlberg, however they are much more expensive. The ski resort has attracted media attention in recent times, in
particular the new James Bond film (Spectre, 2015) which has been filmed here will undoubtedly serve as a positive image for the ski resort.
